About UNI!
UNI! is a free and open-source online card game for (currently) up to four players: familiar rules, lightning fast, and absolutely bursting with chaos. We didn't just want to make another clone. We wanted a game that feels like you installed every crazy mod imaginable and let your friends loose in it.
Where it came from
UNI! started as a university exam. What began as a humble course project kept growing with more features, wild custom mechanics, and full multiplayer, until it turned into the chaotic game you're playing today. We named it "UNI!" to remember those university roots.
Why we made it
If you've ever searched for a classic card game to play online, you know the problem: most of them are absolutely buried in intrusive ads, pop-ups, full-screen interruptions, the works. We thought we could try and do better. UNI! is our attempt to fill that gap with something well-made, fast and genuinely pleasant to play.
About the ads
We'll be honest with you: UNI! does will run ads, and that's how the project will funds itself, the servers and the time aren't free. We'll do our best to find the perfect equilibrium. Our north star here is a game like Skribbl, a beautifully made, fair game that people genuinely adore, rather than the cluttered, ad-ridden norm. Fewer ads, less annoyance, more game.
Open source
We love open source. UNI!'s
source code and assets
are released into the public domain (CC0), so anyone can learn from the
project, take it apart, and build their own things online, even something that goes on to do
better than us. That's the point. Knowledge worth sharing should be shared.
Yes, some resources are not ours. That will change over time as we approach our first stable
release.
